Transnet finance executive Yousuf Laher took the stand at the commission on Wednesday to respond mainly after he was implicated by former electrical engineer Francis Callard.

JOHANNESBURG – Transnet finance executive Yousuf Laher told the state capture commission on Wednesday that he was part of the team that worked on evaluating and negotiating two tenders, one for 1,064 trains and one for 100 locomotives.
Laher took the stand on the commission to answer mainly after he was implicated by former electrical engineer Francis Callard.
Callard told the commission that Laher instructed him to draft a memorandum for the increase in the total estimated cost of the 100 locomotives in 2014.
The cost of the project, which was awarded to China South Rail, soared from R3.8 billion to R4.8 billion.
