Washington – The United States on Saturday recorded its highest number of coronavirus cases in a day, with more than 277,000 infections.
The country most affected by the pandemic in the world, the United States, has marked 20.4 million cases in total and just under 350,000 deaths.
Infections have risen in recent months, with top US government scientist Anthony Fauci warning just days after Christmas that the worst of the pandemic could be yet to come, bringing the country to a “tipping point” as vacation travel spreads the virus.
The country has failed in its efforts to quell Covid-19, with its vaccination program beset by logistical problems and overloaded hospitals.
