JOHANNESBURG – It was a chorus of ‘I don’t remember’ from Malusi Gigaba’s former special adviser in the state capture investigation Friday.
Siyabonga Mahlangu was questioned about the alleged pressure he exerted on senior Transnet officials to reinstate the fired former Transnet executive, Siyabonga Gama, in February 2011.

Mahlangu was Gigaba’s special advisor when Gigaba was Minister of Public Enterprises.
Previous witnesses have implicated Mahlangu in complying with “Number One” directives.
Transnet’s former legal chief Siyabulela Mapoma testified that Mahlangu called him saying “Number One” wanted Gama to return quickly.
“I have never told Mapoma, as he claims, that Number One wanted to do it quickly,” Mahlangu said.
Email evidence obtained from Mahlangu’s private address paints a different picture.
Evidence Leader, Defender Anton Myburgh asked, “Your evidence now, before the Commission, is yes, here are the two emails, but I have no independent recollection of writing those emails, sending those emails or the content of emails.
Mahlangu replied, “That is correct.”
Mahlangu has yet to testify about his connections to Gupta and a trip he made to India together with Duduzane Zuma and Tshepiso, Ace Magashule’s son.
