South African Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa said he sees no more sense in engaging with Cricket South Africa and that he will step in to help solve the problems that have plagued the organization of late.

Mthethwa further claimed that he had informed the International Cricket Council of government intervention in CSA affairs.

Mthethwa has also given CSA until 5pm on October 27 to make written statements, if they so choose, about why it should not exercise its decision to intervene as provided by the laws of the country.

The steps have been taken after a series of meetings between CSA and the government. “Efforts have been made for several months to try to help CSA stabilize its governance affairs,” read a statement from Mthethwa’s office.

“This, after a great outcry over the failure of his leadership to manage its affairs effectively.”

Mthethwa added: “Having evaluated the discussions, as well as subsequent reports on this matter, I have now reached a point where I see no value in any further engagement with CSA.”

The Sports Ministry statement goes on to say that since Sascoc’s initiative to help CSA “did not yield positive results, the minister held meetings with the board and council of members. Similarly, more commitments have been maintained between Sascoc and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, also with negative results. “

Mthethwa believes that “there is great merit in creating an environment where sporting issues are handled within the sporting movement and now consequently wishes to offer you every possible opportunity to demonstrate your stated commitment to cooperate on the way forward for the sport. cricket”.
