Emergency services are still searching for a fisherman believed to have been lost at sea.

He disappeared in Paternoster on the west coast Thursday afternoon.

Paternoster is a small fishing village located about 145 km north of Cape Town.

Initial reports suggest that, while fishing, the man’s boat ran out of fuel as it returned to shore.

“We believe an oar fell off the boat and the fisherman may have jumped into the water to retrieve the oar when, in 25-knot winds, the boat veered away from him and lost sight of the fisherman,” the National Sea spokesman said. Craig Lambinon Rescue Institute.

Lambinon said the boat was towed to shore and a police dive unit was dispatched.

“Despite an extensive search of the sea and shore, there was no sign of the missing fisherman, who is from Paternoster,” Lambinon said.
