Highlands Park president Brad Kaftel says that if a deal to sell the club to TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi is to be closed, it will either succeed, or fail, in the next two weeks.

Kaftel, the owner of several car dealerships, including Highlands sponsor Hatfield VW, denied a media report that a deal had been concluded in principle with Sukazi because the owner and former agent of the Galaxy met Park’s financial requirements. .

Kaftel, however, added that if a deal is reached, it will be soon, given the pressing time requirements needed for a short offseason before the start of the next Premiership campaign, which PSL has proposed to start in October.

“What I can say is that we are not only owners of Highlands Park, we are also passionate supporters of Highlands Park,” said Kaftel.

“But after the Covid we have had to evaluate the state if the economy, and the truth is that a football club operates at a loss.

“The reports we’ve sold are guesswork. What I’m saying is that if there is going to be a deal, or there is not going to be a deal, it will happen soon, possibly in the next week, or maybe next week, after the league is completed.

“What happens is that we have to prepare for a new season if there is no agreement. And in this case there is not much time.

“This has been going on for four months. We have been talking to Tim since April.

“It’s at a point where it has to happen or not, because we have to prepare for next season, and PSL is talking about starting the next season in October, and it ends on September 5. So we have four weeks.

“… When it comes to a large sum‚ and various parties involved ‚it is not like shopping in a store and buying a Coke.

“The truth is, if we do make a deal with Tim, it is purely financial.”

The current Premier Division season, delayed for five months due to football suspension due to Covid-19, concludes with its final round next Saturday (September 5).

Kaftel and co-owner Larry Brookstone have been behind the rebirth of Highlands Park, the club sold to Jomo Sono to form Jomo Cosmos in 1983, in the modern era, bringing the team back to the top flight.

They were initially promoted to the First Division in 2016-17, but relegated the same campaign. He bounced back in 2018-19, finishing in a solid seventh place.

This season, coach Owen Da Gama led Highlands to the MTN8 final, losing 1-0 to SuperSport United, and Park is currently eighth in the league with two games remaining.

Sukazi, whose Galaxy GladAfrica Championship team is in twelfth place in the second tier with one match to play, saw an offer to buy Bloemfontein Celtic that fell through earlier this year.

Sukazi could not be reached for comment.
