JOHANNESBURG – SABC’s board has suspended the corporation’s downsizing process for seven days.
In a statement issued early Friday morning, the board said this would allow role players to explore more options to ensure the financial sustainability of the public broadcaster.
He said the SABC was committed to meaningful engagement around the process.

Workers had threatened to go on strike today over plans to cut 400 jobs at the station.

Staff members have been holding pickets at lunch this week, demanding that management take responsibility for the corporation’s financial problems.

Aubrey Tshabalala, from the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said that despite the development overnight, the strike continued since noon.
“Writing to the public and telling them about the seven-day suspension is neither here nor there, there is no talk with the processes. They know our numbers, they know our emails, they will formalize that communication with us. As things are now, we are embarking on industrial action. We tell them to remove all dismissal letters with immediate effect. “
