JOHANNESBURG – The Chairman of the Medical Schemes Council (CMS), Dr. Clarence Mini, died of COVID-19.
The council confirmed that Mini passed away Tuesday after being hospitalized for more than a month.
He was appointed to head the regulator of medical schemes in 2010 by then-Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi.
The council has praised Mini for his contribution, saying he served the medical imaging industry in many capacities and with distinction.

“This wonderful, compassionate and personable person leaves a legacy of having served this country and the industry in many capacities with great distinction.
“Dr. Mini leaves behind his beloved sons Yandi and Nomhle, but most of all his soul mate and best friend, Mrs. Nancy Mini. His family, colleagues, and all industry stakeholders will greatly miss him.” CMS spokeswoman Grace Khoza said in a statement. .
