- South Africa has recorded another 339 Covid-19-related deaths.
- Of the new deaths, 142 were recorded in the Western Cape, followed by the Eastern Cape with 107.
- Meanwhile, South Africa is approaching 1 million confirmed Covid-19 cases.
As SA experiences a surge in Covid-19 infections, the country has recorded another 339 deaths, pushing the death toll beyond the 25,000 mark.

According to a statement from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, the death was 25,246 as of December 22.
Of the new deaths, 142 were in the Western Cape, followed by 107 in the Eastern Cape, 45 in KwaZulu-Natal, 30 in Gauteng, eight in the Free State and seven in Limpopo.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and we thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients,” Mkhize said.
The latest deaths come as the country faces another surge in infections that has been called a second wave. Daily infection rates have increased exponentially in recent weeks.
A recent report by News24 has indicated that hospitals, both public and private, are experiencing stress, especially in KwaZulu-Natal, the Western and the Eastern Cape.

South Africa is also approaching the one million mark for confirmed Covid-19 cases. As of December 22, a total of 940,212 cases had been registered.
According to government statistics, 9,501 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.
