Former Boxing SA CEO Tsholoelo Lejaka has described the death of Sithembiso “Sterra” Ngqezana as the loss of a “loyal ambassador on mainstream radio” for the sport.

The kind and gentle giant who was an excellent sports presenter for Umhlobo Wenene died on Saturday morning of natural causes.

“I am devastated,” Lejaka said.

Ngqezana hosted Lejaka multiple times on his show when Lejaka was still with the boxing regulatory body that he left a few months ago.

“An accomplished and recognized sportscaster and reporter who was looking for nothing more than the progression and growth of boxing sport in particular and sport in general,” Lejaka described to the man.

Ngqezana, who wanted people to remember him for his humility and love of sports development, won the Boxing SA Media Personality of the Year 2011 award in Durban.

Former boxing promoter Andile Sdinile said that Ngqezana had recently mentioned his health problems.

“I spoke to him last week and he said he was not feeling well. He died at the Port Elizabeth hospital, where he lived with his family, ”Sdinile said. “At one point last week he posted on Facebook that he had Covid 19 and was sure it would defeat him.”
