David Ornstein has revealed to TalkSport that if Mikel Arteta were not Arsenal’s manager, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would probably not sign his new contract.

The Athletic journalist assures that the Gabon forward has reached an agreement with the Gunners on a new deal and it will be announced shortly.

Ornstein also claims that he will sign a three-year contract and become the club’s biggest producer, earning more than Mesut Ozil.

This is the news that the Arsenal fans have been waiting for and it will surely delight them.

Heading into the new season, the team will also cheer up knowing that one of the best strikers in the world will stay with them.

However, all of this would not have been possible without Arteta’s influence, the soccer expert told TalkSPORT.

He revealed that the forward is extremely close to his manager and that was key to keeping him at the Emirates for three more seasons.

“I don’t think he has put his pen on paper yet, but he will and it is fantastic news for Arsenal fans because after months of speculation the negotiations are complete,” Ornstein told the talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday morning.

“I think he was always very happy to stay, it was just about making the right deal.

“The negotiation process was started by Raúl Sanllehi and after he left he was picked up by the football operations director, Huss Fahmy, and the technical director, Edu.

“But Mikel Arteta was absolutely crucial in achieving this process. His intervention really intensified the process, his relationship with Aubameyang and his father, which is absolutely critical to his career, was instrumental in overcoming this.

“Aubameyang and Arteta are very close and if Arteta were not the manager of Arsenal, I am not sure that Aubameyang would have signed this new contract.

“Arteta is taking this club in a very positive direction, clearly they are going to be more competitive than they have been at any time in recent years, he is building a good team.”
