The Soweto club is happy to have given back to the community in the year they celebrate their 50th birthday.
Kaizer Chiefs football club has succeeded in purchasing the land on which the club was originally founded, announced President Kaizer Motaung.
The 1.3ha lot is in Phefeni, Soweto, across the street from the Motaung family home and where the club was founded 50 years ago.
On the grounds at the moment there is a church and a soccer field. The soccer field is used by a nearby school, as well as by members of the local community.
The community has been fighting for some time to stop developers from taking over the land, which is why the Chiefs acquisition was so important.
“We are grateful for the acquisition of this important piece of land,” Motaung said in a statement, quoted by Daily sun.
“It is our way of making a contribution to the community we come from. It’s a proud and historic moment for us to announce this milestone, ”said the Chiefs boss.
“This was not easy, it took a long time to observe what happened with the other transaction attempts to acquire this land. At the end of the day, we are happy to eventually secure this land as our way of giving back to the Phefeni community. “
Jessica, the daughter of Motaung, Amakhosi’s Marketing Director, highlighted the efforts that were made to acquire the land and the importance of doing so in a historic year for the club.
“It has come and gone with the exchanges of proposals,” he said.
“We are happy that we did not give up and finally, after many attempts, we managed to reach the goal.
“This is history in the making, especially since it is happening on the 50th anniversary of our club.
“We look forward to making more announcements about the plans we have to turn this into a community sports facility. We will announce all of that in due course. “
Kaizer Chiefs was founded in January 1970 after Kaizer Motaung returned from the United States, where he had been playing for the Atlanta Chiefs.
