A Pelican Park dog owner has reunited with his furry friend after more than a year. But Damian Leeuw’s joy lasted shortly after the husky disappeared again after just ONE week.

The 24-year-old came home Sunday afternoon to find that Storm was gone again.

Damian adopted the puppy and microchipped the dog at three months of age, along with his pit bull Tyson.

Storm disappeared at eight months of age, but was found a week later, thanks to the microchip. But the second time, Damian wasn’t so lucky.

Three months after the husky was first taken away, the thieves attacked again.

A neighbor saw the thieves put the dog into a car, but before the witness could write the record, they had sped off.

Damian explains: “When Storm disappeared, he was completely devastated. I trusted the (micro) chip, thinking it could track it again, but I couldn’t.

He searched for three months, but as time passed his hope faded.

“I drove looking with no luck,” he says. “I lost all hope after three months of searching for Storm.”

Then the unexpected happened, more than a year after Storm disappeared, a Zeekoevlei resident saw a lone Hondjie walking in the area and called the SPCA.

They scanned the dog’s microchip and it turned out to be Storm.

SPCA spokeswoman Belinda Abrahams says they were delighted to reunite Storm with her family on November 9 and says it wouldn’t have been possible without the microchip.

“We strongly encourage all pet owners to microchip their animals (which will connect them) to their owners forever. The cost is only R250, ”he says.

Damian says it was as if a dark cloud had disappeared when Storm was found.

The furry family was finally back together: Damian’s pit bull friend and the happy husky.

However, just six days after the happy reunion, Damian came home around 5 p.m. after volunteering at the National Institute for Maritime Rescue to find that the dog was gone, again.

Damian suspects that the husky somehow got through the door.

If anyone has seen Storm, please contact the SPCA on 021 700 4140.
