The man who allegedly shot and killed his wife inside a police station while she was reporting on a domestic violence case in Mthatha on Monday appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday.

Protek’s security guard, Yandisa Daniso, 42, appeared in Mthatha Magistrates Court, where he faced charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and illegal discharge of a firearm in public.

National Tax Authority spokesman Luxolo Tyali said the case was postponed until September 18 for a formal request for bail.

“In today’s court, the State requested that the case be postponed for the profiling of the defendants for the purposes of a bail request, which it will oppose,” said Tyali.

The incident was condemned by the Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga.

Police said Daniso allegedly tried to escape after the shooting, but was pursued and arrested by police.

The firearm in his possession was confiscated and sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistics evidence, Kinana said.

Protek security confirmed that Daniso was an employee of them and condemned the incident.
