• BMW introduced its latest 4 Series convertible with a soft top-only folding roof.
• The G23 now has the upright kidney grille of the Coupé.
• The flagship model is the M440i xDrive with 275kW and 500Nm.
BMW unveiled its latest 4 Series convertible without a folding hardtop. Instead, the latest G23 model has a folding fabric roof that takes 17 seconds to open or close.
The four-seater offers infinite headroom with the roof open. BMW says the new car has an arched soft top and is 40% lighter than the predecessor car.
The soft top comes in black as standard and with an anthracite silver effect as an option and features an extremely rigid body structure with reinforced side skirts, additional convertible-specific gussets and a new aluminum shear panel at the front, says BMW.
The roof can operate at a speed of up to 50 km / h and has a luggage capacity of 300 liters when stored, and increases to 385 liters with the roof raised.

In addition to the change to a soft top, the new 4 Series Convertible has the latest vertical kidney grille first seen on the Coupé trim. The global launch will begin in March 2021 and the range will be led by the M440i xDrive with 275kW and 500Nm of its three-liter six-cylinder engine.
It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW says the flagship model will hit 100 km / h from a standstill in 4.9 seconds. Adaptive shocks are optional on all models, in addition to the M440i, which also has an active-locking rear differential.
There are also two four-cylinder petrol units, a 420i with 135kW and a 430i with 190kW. The 420d’s four-cylinder diesel has 140 kW. There is a more powerful inline-six diesel duo that will follow later in 2021, BMW says.
The Convertible rides on the same chassis as the coupe, but has been toughened up a bit more. It has the company’s trademark 50:50 weight distribution and features wider tracks, a 28mm rise at the front and 18mm at the rear.
The home lineup of the Series 4 Convertible has yet to be confirmed.
