JOHANNESBURG – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula led a debate Sunday on critical issues related to South Africa’s taxi industry.

Mbalula was joined by a panel during a webinar that included the president of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), Phillip Taaibosch, and former public protector Thuli Madonsela.

The minister addressed many aspects that affect the industry and the ways in which it could be improved for the benefit of the country’s economy and its travelers.

“The taxi industry must show what the democratic administration has done for black industry and for blacks, and the poorest of the poor, commuters and all that. The government cannot turn a blind eye to the industry and look the other way with all its problems, ”said Mbalula.
