JOHANNESBURG – Former Transnet board chairman Mafika Mkhwanazi has submitted a supplemental affidavit including the admission that he was ordered by former cabinet minister Malusi Gigaba to review the dismissal of former CEO Siyabonga Gama.

On Monday, Mkhwanazi was back on the dock of the state’s capture inquiry commission after being questioned as to why Gama, who had been convicted of misconduct, was reinstated.

The commission said in its initial affidavit that it denied Gigaba gave it the instruction.

But when pressured during his testimony, Mkhwanazi said he would file the supplemental affidavit.

The former chairman of the board has largely agreed with the commission that many decisions of the board were irrational.
