JOHANNESBURG – Siyabonga Mahlangu, an adviser to former cabinet minister Malusi Gigaba, said on Friday that he was not involved in the negotiations or the decision to reinstate former Transnet chief executive Siyabonga Gama.

Mahlangu testified at the state’s capture inquiry commission.

Several other witnesses have implicated him for organizing meetings of the Guptas with executives of state entities (EPE).

He has also been accused of playing a key role in allegedly relaying messages from the then Minister of Public Enterprises and former President Jacob Zuma to officials of state-owned companies to work with the Guptas or their associates.

But Mahlangu told the commission that he does not know of any person in the government who had a direct or indirect role in Gama’s reinstatement or in his settlement agreement.

He said he did not know Gama before he became an advisor to Gigaba.

“I did not participate directly or indirectly in the discussions of the agreement that led to the reinstatement of Mr. Gama. The only information I have about the discussions is when I was informed by the then President of Transnet and acting CEO at the time, ”Mahlangu said.
