Cape Town – The heartbroken family of a Valhalla Park boy, who died tragically this week when he was struck by a fleeing kidnapper, is asking for help to get the boy to rest.

The unemployed parents of five-year-old Chesray Herringer say that as they grapple with the loss of their only son, they are struggling to raise funds for his funeral, which is expected to take place over the next week.

Chesray was killed Wednesday afternoon when a skelm driving a stolen Hyundai Elantra struck the boy during a high-speed chase with police officers on Angela Street.

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk explained that the suspect was seen driving the car that had been stolen in Wynberg and chased him while the driver tried to flee.

Residents say the boy was playing just yards from their home when the driver struck him.

Chesray was pronounced dead at the scene, while his neighbor, Toufiek du Plessis, 10, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect was captured and is currently in the hospital under police surveillance.

Mom Elvina, 27, says that yesterday morning they didn’t have a taxi fare to get to the morgue and identify her body, ”explains Elvina.

“A relative had to help us. Chesray is in a burial fund, so the coffin and hole are covered, but there are many other expenses like food and transportation that we need help with.

“Me and his father Vanchesco Walker, 31, are unemployed and doing everything we can, but this happened very suddenly.

“(Yesterday was) her older sister Chelsea’s tenth birthday and she has to go without her brother. It’s a lot to deal with and any help would be welcome. “

Anyone wishing to help with Chesray’s funeral should contact Christine at 074 960 4665.
