Last week, Netflix released the fourth season of “The Crown,” which documents the lives of the British royal family under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, including the controversies they have faced during their time as queen.
Much of season four focused on Prince Charles’s relationship with Princess Diana, including his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, who would later become his second wife and Duchess of Cornwall.
The prince’s relationship with Camilla eventually led to his divorce and Diana in 1996.
Camilla and Charles faced years of backlash due to their affair, and they even had to apologize for their behavior at their wedding before they could officially get married.
Despite the dramatic way their relationship formed, audiences seemed to have gotten used to the couple in recent years.
However, the latest season of “The Crown” rekindled people’s animosity towards the couple and created an entirely new generation of Princess Diana fans, as evidenced by recent activity on social media.
People are leaving pro-Diana comments on real Instagram posts
Fans of Princess Diana have been showing their support for royalty by commenting on the Duchess of Cornwall’s Instagram posts on the official accounts of the royal family and Clarence House.
Both accounts posted a photo of Camilla working on the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Contest on Friday.
The comment section of each post is currently full of messages of support for Diana..
Many of the comments were simply “Diana” with the heart emoji, although some wrote messages that criticized Camilla more explicitly.
“Diana is the real MVP,” wrote one user, while another wrote “I don’t like it” in reference to Camilla.
“Please … no one cares Camilla,” wrote a disgruntled Diana lover below the photo.
Thousands of comments mentioned the late princess in both posts.
Some fans of Camilla and Charles left comments defending the couple, telling people to leave them alone.
“One thing I don’t understand is, if you don’t like Charles and Camilla why are you following them here, unless it’s because you want to be nasty #bekind?” Wrote a follower in the comment section of the Clarence House post .
However, the vast majority of comments celebrated Diana, and few defended Carlos and Camila.
Although viewers are taking everything that happens in ‘The Crown’ as fact, the show is not entirely accurate.
“The Crown” is designed to provide an inside look at the royal family, but it doesn’t do everything right, including the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
Hugo Vickers, royal historian and author of “The Stuffed Crown,” told Insider’s Mikhaila Friel that “the way this series portrays their relationship, it has Charles as kind of a wimp, evil and nasty, yelling at his wife. and so on. like that. “
“We never have her massive tantrums, and the things she did she had to endure. It’s completely one-sided. “Charles really went to great lengths in the early days to adjust to it.”

Furthermore, the royal family has never given “The Crown” seal approval, as The Guardian noted, so it is impossible to say whether the intimate conversations featured on the show are real.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed their own production deal with Netflix, which some criticized for its compliance and endorsement of the critical view of the royal family that the show often presents.
Representatives for Clarence House, Buckingham Palace and Netflix did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
