President Mnangagwa has rejected claims of a crisis in the country, thanking Zimbabweans for remaining resolute in defiance of the machinations of opposition elements bent on fueling political instability.
In his opening remarks during the 113th Ordinary Session of the Zanu PF Central Committee in Harare yesterday, the president and first secretary of the ruling party said that the so-called crisis existed only in the minds of the opposition.
Like any other country, Zimbabwe faces challenges that the Government is addressing.
President Mnangagwa said the Central Committee meeting took place at a time of failed machinations by Zanu PF detractors on social media to reverse and destabilize the milestones of unity, peace, security and development that the ruling party had achieved.
“I applaud the people of Zimbabwe and the party leadership for remaining resolute in defiance of the opposition’s regime change agenda and worrying levels of self-hatred through a sustained call to make our country ungovernable saying that there was a crisis in Zimbabwe, “he said. said.
“The crisis exists in their minds, the crisis exists in their parties, the crisis exists in their bedrooms but not in the country. We face challenges like any other country in the region and we are determined to face them head-on. We will not seek outside mediation to deal with the challenges they themselves have. “
He said the existing solidarity between Zanu PF and other leaders of sister parties of the liberation movement in the region, such as the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, remained strong and would not be affected by social media.
“We have elements that sell falsehoods that there is a misunderstanding between Zanu PF and the ANC. Hakuna (there’s nothing like that), ”he said.
The president said he was in constant communication with his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and other leaders of sister political parties.
He urged Zimbabweans not to be misled by elements bent on causing discord in the country, but to focus on the development agenda pursued by the government.
“Therefore, we must maintain full control of the ideals inherited from our party mounted in the fight for broad-based economic emancipation, patriotism, loyalty, discipline and forever be masters of our own destiny,” he said. President Mnangagwa.
He exhorted party cadres to work towards compliance with the 2018 harmonized electoral manifesto and the resolutions passed at the 2019 Annual People’s Conference held in Goromonzi.
Mobilizing and increasing party membership remained a critical function of all structures and bodies, while the District Coordinating Committees that were being re-established would play an important role in grassroots membership.
President Mnangagwa said his government believed in servant leadership that had sought to improve people’s livelihoods even in times of crisis such as droughts, cyclones, illegal sanctions, and the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.
“Through the direct and unequivocal intervention of my Government, the macroeconomic environment is stabilizing and the volatility of the exchange rate and the prices of goods and services has been reduced,” he said.
He added that key sectors of the economy such as mining, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, ICT and infrastructure development had seen notable investment and job creation, and the NSSA reported that 214,000 new jobs had been created.
Regarding the agrarian reform, the president reiterated that the historic program was irreversible since it constituted the basis of the liberation struggle.
However, he urged beneficiaries to fully utilize their land for local and export markets.
As for the upcoming agricultural season, the president said farmers should prepare properly and praised the overwhelming response to the Presidential Pfumvudza Weather Resilient Program across the country.
“The government will continue to facilitate the development of irrigation, mechanization and extension services. Party members are urged to take advantage of all these initiatives to achieve a US $ 8.2 billion agricultural sector by 2025, ”said President Mnangagwa.
Other notable investments were being made in road construction, the energy sector, and dam construction.
“The take-back program has become and must remain an effective mechanism through which we rapidly improve the quality of life for our people in all parts of the country, especially in previously marginalized communities. Our national development and construction agenda must be promoted by the party. “
He said the government will remain determined in the fight against corruption and urged party members to adhere to a culture of hard work and responsibility.
Following his tour of Zion Christian Church’s Mbungo Agroindustrial Park on Thursday, President Mnangagwa urged other churches to emulate such projects.
“I call on the churches of our country and the nation as a whole, to change our mindset and reorient our discourse towards economic productivity.
“We need productivity. The development of a country is based on productivity, that is the only way we can develop this country, that is the only way we can improve the lives of our people.
“No country develops from violent demonstrations and social networks. Let’s avoid the divisive and evil concoctions of the merchants of doom and their handlers who are hell-bent on keeping our country mired in a cycle of disunity and confusion. Let us continue to preach unity, peace, love and harmony so that we can develop our nation, ”he said.
Before the start of the proceedings, members of the Central Committee congratulated President Mnangagwa on turning 78 on Tuesday.
The Central Committee also observed a minute of silence in honor of the 234 senior party cadres who have died since January this year.
Of the 234, four were declared national heroes, 183 liberation war heroes, 44 liberation heroes, and three received state-assisted funerals. Only 100 of the 300 members attended yesterday’s meeting to allow adherence to social distancing protocols.
