SENEKAL – The defense in the Brendin Horner murder case on Tuesday questioned the credibility of the witnesses and said there were no eyewitnesses to implicate the men accused of killing him.

Sekwetje Mahlamba and Matlaletse School were applying for bail at the Senekal Magistrates Court.

They are accused of killing the 21-year-old farm manager earlier this month while allegedly attempting to steal livestock from the farm where he worked.

Both men denied this and insisted they were home the night Horner was killed. The matter was postponed until Thursday for a verdict on bail.

Mahlamba’s jeans were found bloody at his home and when questioned about it, he told the court that he had been wearing them when he helped slaughter a sheep at someone called “Pinky house” who held a ceremony that week.

The state said Pinky was asked about this and she said that Mahlamba was not at her home that day.

Mahlamba’s lawyer alleged, however, that it could be that Pinky did not see Mahlamba during the ceremony as there were more than 50 people present.

The lawyers also questioned the evidence of one of the witnesses who said the men were seen walking up a mountain at 6 a.m. after Horner’s death.

The men’s families said they both slept at home that night and while Mahlamba’s girlfriend said he woke up in the middle of the night to find him missing, she also said he was back in bed at 4 a.m. hours before him. supposedly seen on the mountain.
