CAPE TOWN – After chaotic scenes in Brackenfell about alleged racism at a local high school, some religious leaders said Sunday that the latest development should be a wake-up call for all parents and governing bodies in South Africa.
In a statement, Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba said the conflict reflected the failure of society, particularly parents and teachers, to eradicate racism among children.
“The conflict at school reflects the failure of society, and particularly of parents and teachers, to eradicate racism among our children. If parents and teachers do not heed Brackenfell’s warning, their children are in danger of being exposed to similar confrontations in the future, ”Makgoba said.
Dozens of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters flocked to the Western Cape community on Friday to protest alleged racial profiling at Brackenfell High School.

This was caused by a matrix function in which only white students were supposedly invited.
Makgoba said that after a quarter of a century after the country’s political liberation, it was unacceptable for children to still openly judge other children based on their race, much less using rude and hurtful racial remarks.
“It is even more unacceptable that the parents of these children make them think that there is nothing wrong with racial stereotypes. And it is unacceptable for parents to host ‘private’ parties to which admission to a community like Brackenfell is restricted by affordability, ”he said.
He added: “Almost 30 years after the structures of the National Peace Agreement negotiated a framework for holding protests, it is also unacceptable that the leaders of political organizations and government agencies do not seem capable of agreeing on the conditions that allow a peaceful and controlled protest that respects the rights of others and the well-being of children ”.
