  • Banking giant FNB has expanded its partnership with the Springboks.
  • The new agreement will extend the partnership to eight years in total.
  • SA Rugby says that discussions about the renewal started before last year’s Rugby World Cup and concluded before the start of Covid-19.

SA Rugby on Tuesday it announced that the banking giant FNB has extended its sponsorship to the Springboks for another five years.

The new agreement will extend FNB’s association with the team to eight years in total, with the bank’s iconic acacia tree logo continuing to appear on the jersey above the game number.

SA Rugby said through a press release that the renewal discussions started before last year’s Rugby World Cup and concluded before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are delighted to confirm FNB’s continued partnership with the Springboks,” SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux said in the statement.

“FNB has been a great partner since joining us in the 2017 season and has supported us in many ways beyond a simple sponsorship.

“They showed faith in the Springboks at a challenging time, but I am confident and believe that we have been good to each other as the team has developed and enjoyed success in 2019.

“It is worth noting that our renewal talks started long before the Rugby World Cup to underscore the nature of the relationship.”

The FNB logo first appeared on the team’s jersey at the Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Port Elizabeth in August 2017.

Faye Mfikwe, FNB’s Chief Marketing Officer, added: “We are honored to continue our partnership with the Springboks. FNB is immensely proud of the team’s accomplishments and commitment to unifying the country to foster social cohesion.

“For the past four years, our collective contribution has provided a platform for the youth of South Africa to showcase their athletic talents on the world stage.

“The Springboks not only inspire South Africans to have ‘hope’, they also strive to build a stronger nation. We look forward to continuing a winning journey with the team.”

Roux concluded: “We look forward to continuing our successful relationship in the coming seasons. SA Rugby is proud to partner with one of the strong pillars of the South African business.”
