The two-week suspension of payments occurred as the fund responded to the Auditor General’s observations.
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will resume its Covid-19 TERS benefits starting Monday, September 21, 2020.
The goal of the benefits campaign is to put cash in the hands of workers to protect them from the worst effects of the shutdown as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“We plan a payment run for all pending payments from April, May and June 2020 on Mondays and Tuesdays. After that, we will plan to run payments for the period from July 1 to August 15, 2020 from Wednesday 23 to Saturday September 26, 2020 “. explains Marsha Bronkhorst, Acting Commissioner of the FIU.
The two-week suspension of payments came as the fund responded to the Auditor General’s observations highlighting lax controls. The report also guided the FIU on the steps to follow to ensure that the recipients of cash disbursements are deserving.
Incomplete claims or claims for which employer information is pending will not be processed automatically. Bronkhorst urges employers to submit prominent information.
The closing dates for new applications are as follows: Applications for Covid-19 TERS benefits for March 2020 through the end of May 2020 will be closed on September 25, 2020, and no further applications will be accepted for that period after of that date.
