Durban – Police have been briefed ahead of Teddy Mafia’s funeral which will take place on Thursday morning.
Metro police spokesman Parbhoo Sewpersad said police received specific instructions regarding the route, the funeral home and told that no one would be tolerated breaking the law.
“Anyone who tries to fire into the air or spin their tires will be arrested.”
Drug lord Yaganathan Pillay, known as Teddy Mafia, was shot at his home on Taurus Road, Shallcross on Monday and died upon arrival at the hospital.
Their attackers were subsequently captured by their guards and community members before shooting, beheading them with an ax, and burning their bodies.
Pillay’s family said no expense has been spared for the funeral, which is expected to cost around R300,000.
The funeral is expected to take place at 10 a.m. and head to Shallcross Cemetery at 1 p.m.
According to funeral director Christopher Moodley of Pinetown Funeral Services, Pillay will be buried in a “diamond” studded coffin.
The “diamond” studded casket could be seen at the funeral home Thursday morning.
In addition to the custom casket and luxury vehicles, Moodley said the family had also requested a Scottish piper, custom decoration at the grave site and white doves that will be released at burial.
Sewpersad said the family was told that the entire Covid-19 protocol must be adhered to.
He said that any police found breaking the law or supporting the family would be treated harshly.
