Zanu PF UK / EU District President Cde Masimba Tawengwa has died of Covid-19.

He was 48 years old.

He died at Arundel Hospital in Harare, around 4pm yesterday.

Cde Tawengwa, who had been a political trainee at the Commissariat Department at Zanu PF Headquarters, attended the 114th Central Committee meeting yesterday, but left midway after falling ill.

He reportedly sought medical assistance at a Harare medical center, where he underwent some tests. But his health deteriorated yesterday while he was in Marondera and was tested for Covid-19, and the results were positive.

Permanent Secretary for Information, Advertising and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana, who worked with him in the UK, said that after taking the test, Cde Tawengwa suffered from shortness of breath. He was then taken to Harare, where he died at Arundel Hospital, about 10 minutes after admission.

“I can confirm that Cde Tawengwa is dead. He died today (yesterday) of Covid-19 at Arundel Hospital. He took a political internship in the Commissariat Department at Zanu PF headquarters and attended the 114th Central Committee meeting yesterday as part of his report to appreciate how party systems work.

“Unfortunately, he began to feel ill, left the meeting and sought medical assistance. Today (yesterday), he felt bad again while in Marondera and they tested him for Covid-19 and the results were positive, ”said Mr. Mangwana.

Mr. Mangwana described the son of National Hero Cde Solomon Tawengwa as a patriotic cadre whose credentials are “never questioned”, adding that he was a “gentle giant”.

Mr. Mangwana and Cde Tawengwa served together as President and Vice President of the Zanu PF UK / EU district respectively.

Cde Tawengwa took over as president in 2018, when Mangwana stepped down to take over as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information, Advertising and Broadcasting Services.

He is survived by two sons; A boy and a girl.

Meanwhile, Cde Shiela Mabasa, commonly known as Cde Yondo, has passed away. He died yesterday in a Norton hospital after a brief illness.

Cde Yondo was a member of the Central Committee of ZANU PF.

Zanu Provincial President PF Mashonaland West, who is also Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said: “It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that our dear comrade and Central Committee member Cde Sheila“ Yondo ”Mabasa , has died. In fact, it is a dark day for us. May his beloved soul rest in peace. “

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Returns, who is also the Provincial Finance Secretary, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said: “It is a sad day for Mashonaland West province. We have lost a true heroine and a cadre that was ready to serve the party at all costs. The gap it has left behind is irreplaceable. “

The president of the Zanu PF Provincial Women’s League, Cde Josephine Shava, said that Cde Yondo was a pillar in the province. Her friend and Provincial Secretary of Education for the Women’s League, Cde Margaret Hoshiki, said she learned of Cde Yondo’s death with great shock.

Cde Yondo was a decorated war veteran who joined the military after independence in 1980.

Arrangements for burial have not yet been made.
