Tau going back to Brighton? Kompany drops an important clue

The former Manchester City captain has challenged his players to prepare to fill the void that the former Mamelodi Sundowns star could leave.

Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany has hinted at the biggest indication that Percy Tau could return to parent club Brighton and Hove Albion in January.

Tau is on loan at Anderlecht by Premier League fighters, who have confirmed their plans to bring the attacking midfielder back for the second half of the season.

With the Seagulls flirting with relegation, manager Graham Potter sees Tau as a possible answer to their woes, and Kompany seems resigned to losing one of the key players on his Anderlecht squad next month.

“Yes, he could go, and it will be up to the remaining players, and others, to make up for that game,” Kompany said, according to Walfoot.

“Do I leave the door open for him to stay?” The former Belgian center-back laughed. “Even if there’s a one percent chance he won’t go, yes, I’ll leave the door open.

“Anything can happen to Covid, especially administratively, we know.”

Kompany also moved to praise the forward’s commitment despite ongoing rumors about his future.

“I did not hesitate for a second to start it,” he continued, “because I know very well that he always gives everything.”

If Brighton remembers Tau, it would be the former Mamelodi Sundowns star’s first time playing in the Premier League after previous stints at Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge.

The 26-year-old has already proven that he deserves a career at Seagulls after impressive starts during his three loan spells in Belgium.

He has scored four goals and contributed an assist in 14 league games thus far.

His only assist came in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Beerschot, leaving Kompany praising the Bafana Bafana man, which lasted 84 minutes.

“Percy gave his all and worked well, I saw a good relationship between the attacking players,” Kompany said. “Okay, he didn’t score today, that’s right.”

Since Steven Pienaar left Sunderland in 2017, South Africa has not had an international appearance for a Premier League team.
