A large new apartment building, intended for first-time buyers, approaches the Sandton skyline.

Balwin Properties is developing the new R1.6 billion 20-story building, which will have 1,340 apartments, with 33m2 studio apartments starting at R799,000 each.

Wedgewood is Balwin Property’s first high-rise building and, speaking with Moneyweb, Balwin Properties CEO, Steve Brookes said that it is primarily aimed at the first-time home buyer market, “allowing people to access homebuyer opportunities. more affordable housing in a place like Sandton. ” The building is 200 meters from Sandton Gautrain Station.

Keillen Ndlovu, director of listed properties at Stanlib, said there is room to create more affordable residential nodes in prime locations.

Balwin recently launched the Mooikloof Mega City project east of Pretoria, touted as possibly the largest sectional real estate development in the world. Some 50,000 apartments are being planned and the government is speeding up approvals so that construction can start as soon as possible. Prices range from R499,000 to R799,000.
