Four people were killed after the taxi they were traveling in near Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, was attacked at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Provincial police said the taxi with 13 passengers was fired upon by unknown suspects while traveling in the Cacaneni area of ​​Ekombe.

“Four people between the ages of 24 and 56 were declared dead at the scene. One passenger was injured while others escaped unharmed. The murder and attempted murder charges were opened for investigation by the Ekombe police, ”said police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

He said police followed up on information on the suspects involved and that his vehicle was seen in the Kwahhoshi area of ​​Babanango.

“When approaching the suspects, the police encountered a hail of bullets and a shooting ensued. During the crossfire, the police managed to arrest a 40-year-old suspect. The suspect was found in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. “

The other two suspects managed to flee the scene.

Mbele said police also impounded the vehicle that was allegedly used in the shooting.

The suspect is due to appear in the Babanango trial court on Monday on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, murder and attempted murder.
