Two high-end clubs recently sold their statues and Matsatsantsa was rumored to be looking to do the same.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) top team, SuperSport United, has commented on reports that the club will soon be sold.
This comes after objective reported that DStv is leading the race to become PSL’s next sponsor after Absa withdrew from its association with the league.
Matsatsantsa is owned by SuperSport, which is a group of pan-African South African television channels broadcast on the DStv satellite platform.
The Tshwane giants have moved quickly to refute the rumors in the following statement Thursday night:
“We have been informed of rumors and speculation about the possible sale of the club,” a club statement read.
“These are false. We can state categorically that there have been no such approaches and, more importantly, the club is not for sale.”
SuperSport was rumored to be looking to follow Bidvest Wits and Highlands Park in selling their PSL status.
The mill has been bought by the National First Division (NFD) team, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, and the club will move to Limpopo.
While Highlands Park sold its top flight status to the NFD TS Galaxy team and the club is also expected to relocate to Mpumalanga.
SuperSport is one of the best teams in South African soccer, originally known as Pretoria City.
Matsatsantsa was bought by SuperSport in 1994 and the club gained National Football League (NSL) approval and the club was renamed.
The Tshwane giants became the second team after their city rivals Mamelodi Sundowns to win three consecutive PSL titles, between 2008 and 2010.
SuperSport has also claimed five Nedbank Cups, three MTN8 titles and a Telkom Knockout Cup.
Also, they are the reigning MTN8 champions who defeated Highlands Park in the final last year.
Matsatsantsa also boasts one of the best soccer academies in the country, having produced Daine Klate, Kermit Erasmus, Ronwen Williams and Kamohelo Mokotjo.
