Strong message from Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Anthony Martial ahead of Southampton | Soccer Sport

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged players like Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood to be more confident ahead of his team’s Premier League clash with Southampton. The Red Devils enter the game with the duo failing at this point. But they will look to get back on the winning track after having scored just one point in their last two games.

Martial scored 23 goals for United last season, helping the club finish third in the Premier League table.

And Greenwood, who was unleashed on defenses after the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sánchez, contributed 17 in all competitions.

However, both players have struggled this period.

Martial has found the net only twice in 17 Premier League games, while teenager Greenwood has managed just one goal in 15 games.

And, before the game against Southampton, Solskjaer has taken a firm stance, urging them to be more confident on the ball.

“Hard work, smart work, a little shine, of course,” she said when asked what they could do to end their recent routine.

“Free yourself, be adventurous, take risks.

“You are at Man United, you are playing at Old Trafford, you are playing with the best kit in the world, the best jersey in the world, the badge is on your chest.

“That should give you confidence, it should give you creativity and the freedom to think: ‘I’m here, I’m a good player.’

“We defended well, each time we conceded fewer goals. When the Sheffield United match referee’s delegate report came in, it was a tough job to read when they admitted their goal should have been disallowed and our goal should have been given.

“So that’s a big change and a big change of momentum for us.

“We were sorry that day, but it just confirmed what we felt, that we had a couple of decisions against that cost us three points. It’s hard.

“Where was he? The attacking part … we’re creating great opportunities. Let go, let go of your shoulder, take a deep breath for us and put it in the net.”

Solskjaer also praised the club staff for all the hard work they have been doing behind the scenes.

The 47-year-old said: “The staff is brilliant.

“The medical staff, the sports science staff and the children take care of themselves, of course.

“But I think the players have learned, they are physically more robust. We have improved training last season and during the preseason and the running of the bulls.

“Mentally, too, we are more prepared for a quick change and of course we have a deep and strong squad; full of quality with attitude, the character you always want to play.

“So a little complaint won’t stop anyone. At times, the rotation has helped us get through without injury. “

United have been playing every three days recently.

But instead of complaining about the match schedule, Solskjaer has admitted that he loves having so much at stake.

“It’s, like you said, a quick change,” he said.

“Today is Monday, we play tomorrow night, so today they are still recovering from Saturday’s game, but they still have to prepare and get back up for tomorrow night.

“Today was a lighter training day, we don’t do much with those who played.

“Of course, you have those who didn’t play who want to play and look great.

“I wouldn’t say it’s hard to get up mentally. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to get going, but I am very happy with the reaction and the way they have prepared for the matches.

United beat Southampton 3-2 in their Premier League showdown at St Mary’s earlier in the season.

Edinson Cavani was the hero of the moment for Solskjaer’s team, scoring twice after coming off the bench to secure all three points.
