Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams said she would submit to the ANC’s integrity committee after reports that her husband allegedly had business dealings with a board member of the SA Post Office ( Toad).

“This comes after the publication of a series of speculative reports in the media in recent weeks alleging possible business deals, by senior officials, in state entities under his portfolio and members of his family,” said the minister’s office in a statement.

IOL reported Thursday that Ndabeni-Abrahams had fired Sapo’s board member after allegations that he was doing business with her husband, Thato Abrahams.

According to the publication, the board member was forced to resign “shortly after Ndabeni-Abrahams received a text message related to business relations with her husband.”

Ministry spokesman Mish Molakeng said in response to a TimesLIVE inquiry that the official resigned and was not fired.

“The board member mentioned in the article resigned long before the meeting citing personal reasons.”

Ndabeni Abrahams said that her decision to submit to the integrity committee was her commitment to eradicate corruption in her department and protect the integrity of her office.

It was also in line with the position already taken by President Cyril Ramaphosa to stamp out corruption.

“I have emphasized to my department, and to all the officials of the public entities that are under my portfolio, that we must be determined to eradicate corruption and lead by example in the fight against dishonesty in the entities we supervise,” said the Minister.

Ndabeni-Abrahams said that, in recent meetings with senior executives and board members of state entities under his portfolio, he emphasized the call for public servants to stop doing business with the state.
