SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus says he has no doubts that England coach Eddie Jones will be working on a plan to beat the Springboks before their rematch at Twickenham next year.
The Springboks and England will meet for the first time since the 2019 Rugby World Cup final when they meet at Twickenham on 20 November 2021 as part of the Springboks’ three-match European tour.
England announced the big clash on Tuesday as part of their 2021 Fall Internationals.
The game at Twickenham will evoke fond memories for Springbok fans, as the South Africans’ last game against England was a magnificent 32-12 win at Yokohama International Stadium in Japan to capture their third RWC crown.
Although the occasion is almost a year away, Erasmus points to the growing anticipation in both countries for the clash at Twickenham, where the Boks last beat England in 2014.
“Any game involving England and the Springboks is always special,” Erasmus said.
“England is an incredibly proud rugby nation and in Eddie Jones they have a crafty coach who will undoubtedly be working on a plan to outwit the Springboks in our rematch at Twickenham.
“The history and rivalry between our two countries always make it a great competition and we are looking forward to playing the English at their Twickenham stronghold where a special performance will be required to match them.”
England head coach Jones said: ‘These are going to be some good rugby matches and tough tests for us as we work to improve as a team.
“South Africa is world champion and we will seek to compare ourselves with them.
“We haven’t had a chance to play teams from the southern hemisphere this year so it will be a good opportunity to see where we are and hopefully some great rugby for our fans to enjoy.”
The name of the Springboks’ third opponent, for the opening game of their European tour on November 6 next year, will be revealed in due course.
