Eloise is expected to make landfall in Mozambique with a high possibility of the storm turning into a tropical cyclone.

JOHANNESBURG – Tropical Storm Eloise is scheduled to hit South Africa, and the weather service is warning that there is the possibility of heavy downpours and damaging winds in parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

Eloise is expected to make landfall in Mozambique, with a high possibility of the storm turning into a tropical cyclone.

This will result in torrential rains and destructive winds along the Mozambique coast and the adjacent interior.

Global Change Institute climate professor Francois Engelbrecht said Thursday that this could result in widespread flooding in parts of South Africa.

“By Friday, current predictions are that it will reach tropical cyclone status and that is of course the most intense type of tropical storm we have; and the most likely path of the storm at this time is that it will follow a path to the southwest over the Mozambique Channel. ”
