JOHANNESBURG – The South African soccer fraternity is recovering from the passing of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Motjeka Madisha, who died in a car accident Sunday morning.
The details surrounding the incident are still unclear, but it is understood that the tragedy unfolded in Kempton Park.
The 25-year-old Madisha, who has been playing for the Sundowns for about five years, is said to be traveling with another person at the time of the accident, who also succumbed to her injuries.
Footage from the alleged crash scene shows a disputed car that also appeared to have been severely burned.
William Ntladi of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services said: “The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, but we can confirm that the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a stationary object and the vehicle caught fire.”
The South African Soccer Players Union said it was heartbroken by Madisha’s passing, while Mamelodi Sundowns said it would make an announcement in due course.
Cape Town City Football Club also chimed in and said their thoughts were with the Sundowns, his friends and his family.
