South Africa’s Meteorological Service said there was a 60% chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the province that will likely continue through Thursday.

JOHANNESBURG – There are thunderstorm warnings in Gauteng on Wednesday that could possibly lead to flooding.

The South African Meteorological Service said there was a 60% chance of heavy rains and thunderstorms in the province that would likely continue through Thursday.

On Saturday, a severe storm caused disruptions in Gauteng, damaging property and uprooting trees.

Bridges were also flooded in parts of Pretoria, and emergency services had to rescue motorists and occupants caught in the rising water.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said: “Imagine having a lot of heavy falls in a short space of time that results in a large amount of water not going to the drain but resulting in flooding. With regards to oncoming storms, you can watch out for wet roads and possible flooding.
