Manchester United star will be loaned out in January
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up about his future plans for Donny van de Beek after he has struggled for minutes at Manchester United.
Donny van de Beek has found opportunities hard to come by since joining Manchester United from Ajax for an initial fee of around £ 35 million. He has made two starts for the Red Devils, that too in the League Cup. And it’s safe to say that questions are already being raised about the thought process behind his signing.
Manchester United have a packed midfield, so much so that even Paul Pogba has been on the bench in recent weeks. And when the time comes, Solskjaer will always turn to French instead of van de Beek.
Right now, players like Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Nemenja Matic, appear to be ahead of van de Beek in the midfield pecking order. However, Solskjaer is convinced that opportunities will come for the Dutch international.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the manager said:
“You will get your games. Do not worry about that.
“It’s easy to say who should play and harder to say who shouldn’t.”

It may be that van de Beek was a signing made with the future in mind rather than bringing him into the first team setup right away. Paul Pogba has always appeared headed for exit eventually and with his contract running out quickly, the club could decide to use his option to extend his stay for a year and then wait for a bidding war in the transfer window next summer.
It is possible that after that Van de Beek’s opportunity really comes. In his 175 appearances for Ajax, he scored 41 goals and provided 34 assists. And it could be that the Red Devils hired him as he was available for a relatively low price of £ 35 million rather than seeing him go to a rival.
In that case, would it have been wiser to leave him at Ajax for one more season on loan so that he could continue playing football rather than leaving him on the Old Trafford bench? I guess we’ll find out in the near future.
