Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba has had his contract with Manchester United extended and will remain with the club until the summer of 2022.

The midfielder’s contract was scheduled to expire this summer, with the inevitable speculation about his future starting to accelerate.

The rumors were fueled by Pogba’s latest admission that it is his dream of one day playing for Real Madrid.

“All footballers would love to play for Real Madrid,” he said last week. “It’s a dream for me, why not one day?

“I am in Manchester and I love my club. I am playing in Manchester, I am having fun and I want to do everything I can to put the club where it deserves.

“I will give everything to the maximum, like my companions.”

On the status of his contract with United, Pogba added: “No one has told me anything.

“I have not spoken with [United executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward. We haven’t talked about a new deal.

“Right now I’m in Manchester and I’m concentrating on getting back to my best form.

“I think there will be a time when the club will come to talk to me and maybe offer me something, or not.”

And Solskjaer has now confirmed that Pogba will remain with the club until at least the summer of 2022 after United activated the 12-month extension clause in his contract.

“Paul is our player, he will be here for another two years,” he told reporters ahead of this weekend’s visit to Newcastle. “Paul is focused on doing everything possible for us. In the years to come, I’m sure we’ll get the best of it. “
