Siya Kolisi joins Sharks: ‘I bought your vision right away’

Kolisi parted ways with Western Province earlier this week after spending his entire professional career so far, 11 years, in Cape Town.

His move to Durban has been highly publicized since US investors MVM Holdings acquired a majority stake in the Sharks franchise in January.

Roc Nation Sports Chairman Michael Yormark is an investor in the MVM deal, and Kolisi joined the Jay Z-owned agency following South Africa’s famous World Cup win in 2019.

The Sharks posted a photograph on their Twitter account Wednesday morning, showing Kolisi putting pencil on paper alongside Sharks CEO Ed Coetzee.

In a statement issued by the union, Kolisi helped explain his decision to sign.

“I bought the Sharks’ vision right away – the energy around the club, the management organization, the team and the potential for success were very strong,” he said.

“I have always had the desire to be the best and play with the best to reach my potential on and off the field, and this move is just one more step to maximize what I can achieve in my career.

“This is a very exciting new chapter for me and my loved ones, and I am fully embracing it. I come with a commitment to give this team everything I have, and I am grateful to the Sharks for the opportunity.

Coetzee, meanwhile, welcomed the College.
