After most tests to date on Saturday, the Western Cape has recorded six other Covid-19 deaths.

On Saturday, 4,059 tests were completed in a 24-hour period. Testing and detection focused on critical points and foci of infection.

“Focused tests and screenings, performed at hot spots or foci of infection, are key in our fight to flatten the curve and stop the spread. However, this cannot be accomplished through testing alone and requires acceptance and helping everyone in society “There is still a need for people to stay home according to the four guidelines of regulation, wash their hands and practice social distancing,” Prime Minister Alan Winde said in a statement.

However, the province also experienced six deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus in the province to 58.

The Western Cape currently has the most confirmed cases as it overtook Gauteng on April 23. As of 1:00 p.m. Sunday, the Western Cape had recorded 3,113 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection.

Winde called for caution as more residents return to work Monday under the Level 4 lockout regulations.
