Rustenburg – Six children were found dead in two separate incidents in the Vryburg area, Northwest police said Thursday.
Brigade spokesman Sabata Mokgwabone said three children were found dead in an old, unused car in the Botsalano village of Morokweng.
“The grandmother reportedly left the four, five and six-year-olds in the yard at around 10 am to attend a funeral in the same town on Wednesday,” Mokgwabone said.
“He returned home around 3:30 pm and found the lifeless bodies of the minors inside an old and unused vehicle that was parked in the yard.”
Two of the children were a brother and a sister and the third child was the son of a neighbor.
Mokgwabone urged community members and parents to properly care for their children to avoid tragic incidents like this one.
On Saturday, three children were found dead inside a freezer in Mammutla village, Taung.
Three girls ages 8, 9 and 10 were apparently found inside the freezer at a certain home in Mammutla outside Taung, Mokgwabone said.
“According to the information available at this stage, the mother of the nine-year-old girl left her son at the house on Saturday morning, November 14, 2020, and went to a local tavern,” Mokgwabone said.
“It is further alleged that the mother returned around 7 in the afternoon and realized that her daughter was not at home. She went looking for her at her brother’s house and around the neighborhood, but could not find her.”
He returned home, noticed something strange with his freezer, and went looking.
“He found the dead bodies of the three girls. The police were called and the investigation of the matter continues,” he said.
