Dan “Dance” Malesela has joined Chippa United until the end of the 2020-21 season ‚with the option to renew for one season‚ the club has confirmed.
Chippa confirmed Malesela’s announcement for his fourth stint at the club in a statement Sunday.
United president Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi said Malesela, 55, has been popular with the club’s fans.
“We are very excited to have ‘Dan Dance’ back in our club structures. He has always been well loved by the different branches of our fans and we did not hesitate to link him with the Chilli Boys when that opportunity presented itself, ”Mpengesi was quoted in the statement.
“We have a person who is familiar with the position we are in, our brand, the team culture and the ambitions of our club. I wish him the best on this journey and to help the team in the desired achievements for this season.
Chippa’s coach who started this season, Lehlohonolo Seema, was suspended on Tuesday, having notched up just one win of eight games in the DStv Premiership this season.
This will be Malesela’s third season at the Eastern Cape club.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Dan Malesela to the position of Senior Head Coach,” the club’s statement read.
“Malesela will be in command until the end of the season with the option of another season. The Club’s aspirations are in the upper half of this 2020/2021 DSTV Premiership campaign.
“Affectionately known as ‘Dan Dance,’ he… led the team to a league-best result (sixth in the 2015/16 season) and a memorable place in the 2017 Nedbank Cup semi-final.
“Malesela is highly regarded for her male management skills and has a proven track record of working with young talents.”
Chippa last week tried to name controversial Belgian Luc Eymael as his new head coach. But the Chilli Boys had to withdraw the appointment after strong objections from the South African Football Association (Safa) regarding the racist remarks the former Polokwane City, Black Leopards and Free State Stars coach had made at his previous club in Tanzania.
Malesela joins Chippa after being fired by TS Galaxy a week ago, having gone six games without a win in the new boys of PSL.
