Regarding the order, the contractors, without admitting any wrongdoing, agreed to pay any amount ordered against them by the court or tribunal.

Court Judge Lebogang Modiba granted the order.

“I am convinced that the order provides for the parties to respect the integrity of the future legal proceedings envisaged without invading the rights of either party,” Modiba said.

The SIU welcomed the order and said the parties agreed that the matter required an urgent hearing on the merits to make it final.

“The withdrawal is the result of an agreement between the parties not to continue with part A of the matter and to deal with part B directly. Part B deals with the merits of the case, while Part A only deals with the freezing of accounts, ”the SIU said in a statement.

The SIU said that by submitting this request, it had managed to stop the remaining payment of approximately R19m by the department to contractors.

The SIU said that the contractors’ commitment that they will pay any amount ordered against them by the court gave it comfort that the subsequent ruling will be carried out.
