CAPE TOWN – National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has reacted with shock and outrage to the killing of anti-gang unit officer Charl Kinnear.
The official was involved in the extortion case of alleged Cape Town underworld figure Nafiz Modack.

Kinnear was shot and killed in Bishop Lavis on Friday afternoon.

National police spokesman Vish Naidoo said Sitole was saddened by the incident.

“General Sitole has tasked the Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata, with immediately activating the 72-hour activation plan. This is a plan to mobilize critical departments, including Criminal Intelligence, Forensic Experts, Falcons and Tactical Units to ensure that no evidence or information is lost that could aid in the successful investigation of this case. “

OFFICER CHARL KINNEAR ‘HAD THE TARGET ON HIS BACK’

It was learned that the slain officer had been living with a target on his back for some time before he was shot and killed on Friday afternoon.

While it’s not yet clear who is behind the shooting, Graham Lindhorst of the Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum said that Kinnear’s life has been in danger for some time.

“It’s shocking, but we expected it because there was another shooting on 11th Street and that time we found out it was the wrong identity, it was actually for Kinnear. There were policemen protecting him but they withdrew later. The community is shocked, totally shocked.
