Tim Sherwood has told the Kelly and Wrighty Show that he believes José Mourinho has now spotted the great weaknesses in the game of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld.
Dier and Alderweireld have become Tottenham’s first defensive option this season, and they have looked solid in recent weeks.
The Spurs have conceded only once in their last four outings, but Sherwood believes Mourinho has changed tactics to suit the pair.
“He’s done a brilliant job overall, you would have to say,” Sherwood said.
“Alderweireld and Dier have realized that they can defend the penalty area very well, but they are not very good at the midfield line.
“He has brought the whole team back so they are very energetic.”
Dier and Alderweireld’s partnership will actually break down for Tottenham this weekend, which could be a concern.
Alderweireld has suffered an injury that will keep him away for about a month.
Tottenham will now depend on either Davinson Sánchez or Joe Rodon to intervene against Chelsea, and the pressure will continue as the London derby already looks like a great match for both sides.
With Spurs leading the way in the Premier League table, another victory would really send a message about their title ambitions this season.
