Shepherd Bushiri surrenders to Malawian authorities

JOHANNESBURG – Shepherd Bushiri surrendered to the Malawi authorities on Wednesday.

Reports are emerging in Lilongwe, Malawi, that the police went to his home last night to arrest him, but he was not there.

Interpol is believed to have issued an arrest warrant.

The North Gauteng Superior Court has also issued arrest warrants for Bushiri and his wife, Mary, who broke bail conditions last week.

The Superior Court issued the orders Tuesday.

The couple face charges of fraud and money laundering.

In a video on social media, Bushiri said the couple felt unsafe in South Africa.

It demands that the government ensure their protection before they return.

Court proceedings Tuesday on the formal withdrawal of the bond and the confiscation of the bond deposit were postponed until December 7.

South Africa has started legal proceedings to secure the extradition of the couple.
