The self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri are expected to stand trial in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria from May 31 to June 18, 2021, as revealed at a pre-trial conference on Friday.
The Hawks arrested Bushiri and his wife on February 1, 2019, on charges of fraud and money laundering, for more than 15 million rand.
News24 previously reported that one of the charges was related to exchange control regulations and involved foreign currency of $ 1,147,200 (over R19 million).

Bushiri, also known as “Major 1”, is the leader of the Gathering Illuminated Christian Church.
In his previous court appearances, large numbers of parishioners gathered outside to support him.
Bushiri and his church made headlines at times, especially in January last year, for a fatal stampede.
The CRL Commission cleared him of responsibility for the stampede, which resulted in the deaths of three people, after finding that the church fully complied with safety regulations, News24 previously reported.
