Hollywood actor Will Smith would join Shah Rukh Khan and other celebrities at a concert to raise funds for the battle against the coronavirus in India on Sunday.

Rock legend Mick Jagger, cricket captain Virat Kohli, Priyanka Chopra are some of the top national names who come forward to interpret or read messages from their homes at a four-hour concert.

Hosted by Bollywood directors Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar, the show will be streamed live on Facebook and will pay tribute to workers fighting the pandemic.

Its goal is to raise millions of dollars for more than 100 groups that provide food and other essential services during the crisis.

The concert organizers said the money was necessary “for those who have no job or home and don’t know where their next meal will come from.”

India’s 1.3 billion people have been under lockdown since March 25 with the restrictions, though recently eased, which will last until at least May 17.

The closure has especially affected millions of migrant workers stranded in cities with little food or money. Special trains were organized on Saturday to help thousands of workers finally return home.

India has so far reported 37,335 coronavirus cases and 1,218 deaths, with more than 2,000 new infections in the past 24 hours.

Experts fear that the lack of evidence and poor notification procedures mean that the death toll is much higher.

The government has announced a series of special activities to gather support for front-line workers.
