Several people march to Union Buildings to protest farm killings

JOHANNESBURG – Several people marched to the Union Buildings on Saturday to protest against farm killings in the country.

This is the second demonstration under the slogan “United against agricultural killings” in as many months.

A protester said Newzroom afrika that the government did not respond urgently to the attacks on farms in the country.

“I think this is the time to stand up and unite. Our voice must be heard in South Africa against these brutal and senseless agricultural killings. Enough is enough.”

The demonstration comes amid heightened tension in the Free State following the murder of a farm owner in the province.

Angry protesters stormed Senekal Magistrates Court and set fire to a police vehicle in retaliation for the murder.

A 51-year-old farmer was arrested in connection with the violence.
